The hours, before they become a problem

The driver starts and stops activity on their phone. The app warns them before they cross a legal limit, and you see the whole fleet on one screen — with anything over the limit in red. The PDF record is the document you show at a roadside check.

Three limits, and all three at once

It is not one ceiling: it is three, with different windows. A driver can be fine for the day and over for the quarter.

WindowLimit
Any 24-hour period 10 hours
One week 60 hours
Average over four months 48 hours a week

“Any 24-hour period” is not “the day”. A night that starts at 10pm and ends at 9am crosses two calendar days and counts as a single window. This is where hand-made calculations go wrong.

How they are recorded

  1. The driver starts activity

On their home screen, “Start activity” when they begin and “End activity” when they stop. They can take breaks. If they forgot to start, there is “I forgot to start” — because forgetting happens, and a record that does not admit reality stops being used.

  2. The app warns them before the limit

Not after. The warning is there so they can stop in time, not to tell them they have already gone over.

  3. You see the whole fleet

Under Drivers, on the clock icon: who is working, who is on a break, the hours in the last 24, the week and the four-month average. Anything over a limit shows in red.

  4. The PDF is the document

The “Hours record (PDF)” is what gets shown at an inspection. It comes from the driver's side, with their hours.

A choice we made, and you will notice it

Hours are recorded by the driver, and the warnings go to them. You see the numbers; you do not get notified when they approach a limit.

That is deliberate. A system that warns the boss before the driver turns a safety instrument into a surveillance one — and the first person to stop using it is the one feeding it. Without honest records, the PDF is worth nothing to either of you.

What the time clock does not do

  • It does not detect driving on its own. There is no GPS deciding that somebody started work: the driver starts and stops it.
  • It does not stop anyone working. It warns. Stopping is the driver's decision, and the legal responsibility stays where it always was.
  • It is not legal advice. The limits above are the ones the app watches; your specific situation may carry more rules, and a lawyer is who reads those.
  • It does not send anything to the authorities. The PDF is generated and stays with the driver; showing it is up to them.
